The Work

2359 partnered with FOX to provide a dedicated engineering and QA team. Together we’ve built out a world class OTT product across web, mobile (iPhones and Android Phones), tablet (iPads and Android Tablets) and leanback devices (Apple TVs and Android TVs).

The Challenge

Getting Started

With a wealth of licensed content from FOX and other studios, FOX was looking for a way to get an OTT product up and running in a 4 month timeframe that would host Movies, TV Dramas, Documentaries, Sports and Live Channels. With our experience designing and building OTT applications, as well as experience working with the MPX content management system and DRM content, 2359 set out to design, build, test and launch the initial version that allowed TV-Provider customers to browse and watch content on their mobile devices and browsers.

Rapid Expansion

After the success of the POC launch, FOX and 2359 doubled down with an aggressive product roadmap aimed at building FOX+ into a fully fledged OTT application with a host of new features and platforms targeting users in the Asia Pacific region. To meet their needs, 2359 significantly expanded the dedicated engineering and QA teams for FOX.

The Process

We run a fully agile engagement with FOX. Providing an agile 16-man team - with a mix of onsite and offshore resources - requires a significant amount of transparency, visibility and trust. Our team mimics the functionality of an in-house team by iteratively crunching through the product backlog, running daily scrums, fortnightly sprint plannings and 24/7 production support.

Key Feature: Offline Downloads

Given FOX+’s availability in developing countries across Asia Pacific, many of our end users lived in areas with weak or spotty internet connectivity. This made the Offline Playback a key product feature. Coupled with offline DRM, as well as complex content rights, this feature was a new challenge for 2359. FOX’s trust in us allowed us to collaboratively and build this great future together. As it happens, FOX+ launched its Offline Download and Playback feature before Netflix!

Ben & the team at 2359 have been essential to delivering on our digital goals over the last 12 months. They've been an important part of our extended team, and share an excellent understanding of our needs, and will quickly scale up to meet our changing requirements.

- Jordan Foord, Head of Product & Engineering - APAC & Middle East at FOX+

The Results

Since beginning this project, 2359 has worked with FOX’s product team to introduce a host of new features, including: multi-profiles, watch history, favorites, search, offline downloads and playback, EPGs, free trials, in-app-purchases and more. FOX+ is actively growing and expanding to new markets with over 1 million users today.
